Distinguished Citizen Award
The Painted Post Area Board of Trade is organized for the purpose of advancing the commercial, industrial, civic and general interests of the Painted Post Area. The Painted Post Board of Trade established the Distinguished Citizen Award to recognize publicly those individuals who have unselfishly volunteered their time to make a significant, sustained contribution to the Painted Post area.
BOARD OF TRADE TO HONOR MCCAIG
The Painted Post Board of Trade will present its Distinguished Citizen of the Year award to Michael McCaig of Painted Post. The award, to be given at the board’s annual dinner on February 6, is presented to a man or woman who has served the greater Painted Post area with distinction and dedication.
McCaig, a resident of the Village of Painted Post, has a long history of service to the community. He is a past member of the Erwin and Painted Post Parks and Recreation Committee, a member of the Village of Painted Post Comprehensive Planning Committee, the Painted Post/Erwin Shared Service and Comprehensive Study Committee, and has served the Village as a member of the Painted Post Board of Trade as well as the Colonial Days Committee. He is also a past member of the American Red Cross Board of Directors.
McCaig’s dedication to the youth of the area is evident in his volunteer work with the Corning-Painted Post Youth Lacrosse League board, the Corning West High Band-Aides Association, the school district’s Athletic Advisory Committee and as a baseball coach for the Painted Post Little League District. McCaig is also a past youth volunteer coach for the Youth Lacrosse League and a basketball coach for the YMCA, CYO and Corning Skyhawks.
Active in All Saints Parish McCaig is a past Parish Council member, a past youth minister, and a current volunteer for the “Faith by Interaction” (FBI) youth organization as well as Teen Angels, a youth support program.
The Painted Post Board of Trade will host the annual dinner on Saturday, February 6 at 6 p.m. at Watson Homestead. For reservations or more information contact Kristen Ketchum at 607-962-2045.
Painted Post Area Board of Trade 2015 Distinguished Citizen Award
Mike McCaig is the kind of person everyone wants as a neighbor and friend. His devotion to the Painted Post area is matched only by his dedication to the betterment and expansion of civic and service efforts locally.
Mike has been active for many years and has taken leadership roles in Painted Post organizations and committees. He has served on the Erwin and Painted Post Parks and Recreation Committee, the village’s Comprehensive Planning Committee, and the Painted Post/Erwin Shared Service and Comprehensive Study Committee. Colonial Days benefitted for many years from his membership on that committee, and as a past member of the American Red Cross Board of Directors he ably served the larger area and its people.
Mike’s dedication to the youth of the area is well known. Believing in the transformative power of sports for all children he has been a member of the Corning Painted Post Youth Lacrosse League Board as well as the Corning-Painted Post School District’s Athletic Advisory Committee. He coached area youth in baseball with the Painted Post Little League District, in lacrosse with the Youth Lacrosse League, and in basketball for the YMCA, CYO and Corning Skyhawks.
His service to others is not limited to civic responsibilities and sports. Mike has been active for years in All Saints Parish. He is a past Youth Minister, a former Parish Council member, and currently volunteers with the Teen Angels youth support program as well as “Faith by Interaction” (FBI), a parish youth organization.
Mike McCaig is the recipient of the 2012 Dresser Rand Company’s Award for Outstanding Community Service for his work with youth.
The Painted Post Area Board of Trade is proud to bestow yet another accolade on Mike – the 2015 Distinguished Citizen of the Year.
We promote our members with a newsletter, a membership directory and with a Holiday Thank You advertisement in the newspapers and radio.
It is our goal with the launch of PaintedPostNY.com to bring the best the Internet has to offer to our community. Servicing both residents and businesses alike by becoming the 21st century version of a town crier! We will be our communities digital information center and you will be a part of the excitement we are creating.
The future for the PPABOT promises to keep it busier than ever. The issues that we must address are numerous. We must continue to work with and support the planned growth of the area in this economic boom. We must look at redeveloping our existing business districts and housing assets to meet the immediate needs of the entire community. We need to have a seat at all the tables that are making the decisions for planning, development, government and community enhancements.
Our unofficial motto is "roll up your sleeves and go to work." We have always done this, and I trust, with your help, that we always will.
